UNC Reaching Out to Hispanic Students

UNC Asheville is partnering with three Western North Carolina school districts on a new program that aims to help prepare Latino students for college.

Thirty-five students from surrounding schools  Asheville High, Erwin High and Mountain Heritage High are taking part in the Juntos program. The program targets ninth and 10th graders.

The AT&T Foundation is providing $25,000 to support the program.

Juntos is a national program that operates in more than 50 cities.

The program has multiple components including a success coach and parent engagement workshops.

A key part of Juntos is mentoring and tutoring that will be provided by students from UNC Asheville.

Students will also take part in a summer enrichment program on the UNCA campus.
